2009: A YEAR IN REVIEW

February we started off with a bang with SpayDay USA with the coloring sheet display in the Oakland Library window, Dr. Fridkins' bassett “Pokey” placed in the top 10 in the online HSUS photo contest, and we were awarded a $3000 check!! We also gave out at least 100 spay/neuter vouchers that week totaling $10,000.

March brought the Womens Civic Club luncheon which resulted in a nice donation to us.

April, May and June we were busy preparing for the July fundraiser, plus some of our members helped at HARTS Kayaks,Tunes and Brews fundraiser at WISP, then DD and Deb staffed our table at the Highland Festival.

July brought our big fundraiser which was well attended even with some bad weather, a fun time was had by all, and we raised over $6000 which is quite a feat!!

August is County fair time where the HSs DD and Deb set up an adoption area for one of the horses we had acquired. After reviewing the applications and essay a lucky owner was chosen.

September we sold Dog-packs(hotdogs) at the Walmart coke booth and profited about $200!!

Octobers Autumn Glory table featured an autographed copy of “Dewey,” games, toys, fresh catnip, and dog treats with sales totaling several hundred dollars.
One of our members, DD Lohr attended the East Coast Animal Control Officer Academy in Carroll County for 2 weeks and received her certificate, pin and badge ranking her equal to all other (paid) ACOs in the state of Maryland.

November we got together with HART, PAWS & the GCO Government to put together a “What Animal Owners Need to know” brochure which is still in the pre-print stage. This brochure is a long over due information filled mailing that every resident in the County will receive in the future.

December brought our year to a close with a nice Christmas party and plans to revise our July fundraiser in 2010 and several members volunteered with HARTs Furball preparations.
